Giving Back to the
Communities We Serve
At Arrington Schelin, we believe in being of service to the community. Attorney Jim Arrington grew up in Southwest Virginia and has been practicing law here for over 40 years. He, his partners, and his staff are dedicated to volunteerism and community service. Throughout the years, our firm has supported many outstanding organizations and causes, including:
Sheriffs’ Offices D.A.R.E. Program
Arrington Schelin has combined our support of childhood literacy and law enforcement by donating books to the Bristol Sheriff’s Office D.A.R.E. program. These books are being used to teach youngsters what police officers do for the community.
Horses Empower Heroes
As a veteran himself, Jim Arrington loves working with organizations that support fellow veterans. One of the most rewarding experiences that he and his staff have had was working with Small Miracles’ Horses Empower Heroes (HEH) program. This program promotes self-sufficiency for veterans by enhancing cognitive, emotional, and social growth. The strength-based program uses unmounted, experiential equine-assisted activities and therapies. HEH is done in collaboration with the James H. Quillen Mountain Home V.A. in Johnson City, Tenn. It provides medical attention for veterans of all branches of military service.
Barter Theatre’s Community Christmas
We are proud to support the Barter Theatre’s Community Christmas program, which raises money for Christmas turkey gift certificates for families in Abingdon. All participants in the program are volunteers, with the theatre donating the space. Our firm has been involved since the program’s start in 1993, and we look forward to it every year.
Washington County Little League
Kids and families alike enjoy participating in Washington County Little League. Arrington Schelin sponsored the Dodgers, and we were so excited to see them play. Little League uses the power of baseball and softball to teach important life lessons that build up kids and the community.
Boy Scouts
As a former Boy Scout, Jim Arrington is a longtime supporter of the Scouts. He has his own uniform framed and proudly displayed at our law office. Fun fact: Four of the boys in Jim’s Eagle Scout troop grew up to become judges in the area.
Morrison School
Jim Arrington serves on the board of directors for the Morrison School in Bristol, Va. This pre-K-12 school empowers students who have a different way of learning to ensure they have the tools to reach their maximum potential.
Youth Literacy
We believe in the power of education and literacy in our community. Our firm supports a range of literacy efforts, including keeping our own stock of books on hand to give out as we meet with clients and other office visitors who love to read and love to encourage the youth to read.
